Relational Evangelism
There is nothing that gives freshness and vitality to the Christian life like being a part of the process of seeing someone trust Christ—especially when that person is a friend or loved one. The experience brings a thrill like no other. To know that we have been used by God to make a real difference and eternal impact fills our hearts with joy. To know that we have been used by God to make a real difference and eternal impact fills our hearts with joy However, we all know that the vast majority of Christians never experience that thrill and vitality. Recent Barna surveys reveal that only about 8% of Christians have shared the complete gospel with a lost individual. And less than 2% share Christ on a regular basis. Quest Ministries is dedicated to changing that. It is our desire to see ordinary Christians discover the thrill of following in our Lord’s footsteps, the joy of seeing Him create in them a heart for lost people. We put special emphasis on seeking to build evangelism into the ordinary routines of our lives. We want to motivate the average Christian to begin the journey of reaching out to their sphere of influence with the good news of Jesus Christ. To accomplish this we have focused on both motivating and equipping those who are willing. The following summarize our emphasis: There are two key truths that we especially find ourselves emphasizing in our equipping ministry. First, statistics show that God is not primarily using crusades, or church outreaches, or visitation programs to save people here in our country. He is primarily and most often using friends and family to reach them one by one. At this time in American history, the people who are coming to Christ are doing so through those they trust. Relationship is the key to their conversions and so is the power of walking with their loved one into a relationship with Christ. The second truth that we emphasize is the importance of clearly communicating the “Bad News” before we move to sharing the “Good News.” Sixty-eight percent of Americans say that “believing in God and being a good person” results in God accepting them into heaven. Over 20 percent of those attending our evangelical churches are confused about this issue of salvation by grace alone. That is why we at Quest Ministries focus on encouraging those who are sharing their faith to focus on the bad news before they share the good news.
Over 20 percent of those attending our evangelical churches are confused about the issue of salvation by grace alone When Jesus was asked by the rich young ruler, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus didn’t answer by telling him that He was the Messiah and that He would soon die on a cross to provide salvation. Instead Jesus said, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone” and then He told the rich young ruler to obey the 10 commandments. Now, would you have answered that young man’s question as Jesus did? Most Christians admit that they have been trained to immediately share the good news…not the bad news. But Jesus directed him to the law to force that seeker to understand the bad news (see 1 Timothy 1:8-11). In the end, the young man failed to make that discovery because of his dishonesty and greed. Mark 10:22 says that he went away sad. Interestingly, Jesus let him leave and as far as we know He never shared the “Good News” with him. We need to learn this lesson from Jesus. (click here to learn more about sharing the bad news) Our nation is so lost! And we believe that our hope is not found in any political solution but rather in the changing of the hearts of individual Americans. Would you join us in making a difference by seeking to be a part of the solution—one person at a time?
