There are many questions that we want greater insights into. Because we are finite beings we will never be able to answer these philosophical or religious questions completely. However God has, down through the centuries, revealed to us many amazing insights and answers. The following are a few, often asked, questions and a brief answer for for each of them.
Does God Exist?
The Bible teaches that all men know instinctively that there is a God. It teaches that "eternity" is written on the heart of every man, woman and child (Eccl. 3:11). It also teaches that foolishness is at the core of a denial of God (Psalm 14:1-2). However, at the same time, the Bible just doesn't warn the atheist and stop. No, the Bible encourages an atheist to use their mind and to think reasonably about the subject. Here are a few reasonable arguments implied in the Bible:
The first reason is the existence of a physical universe. God's word teaches that when men look at a designed creation, they should reasonably conclude that there is a designer.
The second reason is deduced by examining Jesus Christ Himself. If there is no God then Jesus is a liar. Remember, Jesus claimed He came from God and that he had seen God.
Still another point can be deduced from logic itself. "Since something cannot come from nothing, there must be something that has existed eternally." Often the natural response to this line of reasoning is, "Of course, there is something eternal, it's the physical universe." However, if one is in touch with the scientific theories of origin, then they would know that the common view of most scientists today rejects the possibility that the universe is eternal. Most contend that the universe burst into existence, out of nothing approximately 13.7 billion years ago (see “The Big Bang”, in National Geographic, January 1994). In contrast to this theory, the Bible teaches that there is an intelligent designer and that the creation that we observe today is a result of His making.
According to a recent survey, 91 percent of Americans believe in the existence of a God. However, many people think of God as impersonal, cruel, or too busy running the universe. They ignore God, and go on with their lives as if He doesn't seem to care. But, God does care. The Bible says that God values all men and that He is very interested and involved in the affairs of men. He provided a way to a new life. He does more than just exist. He really loves you and desires a relationship with you.
Is the Bible Reliable and Accurate?
The Bible is the most unique book ever written. Originally written in three languages, by over forty different human authors, over a time span of 1,600 years, the Bible stands alone among all the books of the world.
Though written by human authors, the Bible claims to have one supreme Author who orchestrated its unity and fulfilled its predictions. This book was obviously designed to get our attention and to communicate God's plan for His creation. The Bible claims that God desired from the beginning of time to relate with men personally, to love us, and to have us choose to love Him back. This message alone sets this book apart from all the religious books of our world. Other books communicate how man must perform to gain God's approval; in contrast, the Bible communicates how God performed by reaching down to mankind and providing a way for us to have an eternal relationship with God.
Many who study the Bible see its uniqueness in its uncanny ability to be relevant to today's situations. Some have called it "God's Instruction Manual for those Living Here on Planet Earth." They have found its wisdom capable of solving life's most perplexing problems and unique ability to heal our fractured relationships with one another and with God Himself. Though some try to dismiss the Bible as a collection of error-filled chapters, most scholars recognize the Bible as historically consistent and archeologically accurate.
Aren’t All Religions Basically the Same?
All religions are clearly not the same. For one thing they fundamentally define the gods they worship differently. They have a different concept of an afterlife. Ten out of the top eleven world religions teach that "good deeds" are necessary to arrive at or into the afterlife. In contrast, the Bible teaches that arriving in heaven and gaining an eternal relationship with God doesn't require "doing" anything, except receiving God's "grace."
Those who follow Jesus Christ recognize that He claimed to be the Son of God. No other major religious leader made such a claim. Buddha claimed to be a great teacher, Mohammed claimed to be a prophet, Hinduism teachers merely claim to have written wisdom about their gods. But Jesus Christ alone claimed to be the Son of God—clearly a claim of deity.
The most important distinctive of Christianity is the Bible’s claims that Jesus rose from the dead. If Jesus is alive today then Christianity is unique among all the world religions. But if He didn’t rise from the dead, then by the Apostle Paul’s own admission Christianity should be dismissed and ignored. The Bible says, "…if the resurrection didn't happen, then following Jesus would be meaningless, and we of all men are to be pitied." Christianity stands or falls not on a philosophy of life but on a historical event. This is unique among all the religions of the world and proves that all religions are not the same.
